salmon run

With uncanny precision, salmon swim back from their adult life in the ocean (where they gain most of its mass), to the natal river (gravel beds in the upper reaches) to spawn.

After spawning, all Pacific and most Atlantic salmon die, restarting the salmon life cycle.

This annual run is a major event for bald eagles, grizzly bears, and sport fishing.
